Many of us have decided to staycation or stay put this year as a result of a great deal of uncertainty or availability. If you fall into the latter group and plan to be in London throughout August and September, we have rounded up 5 of our favourite ways to treat yourself to something a little different this Summer. And as a bonus, they are all either free or virtually free.

1. Northern Lights

Shining over two locations in the Royal Borough of Greenwich this incredible immersive light show, Borealis by Dan Acher, takes inspiration from the Northern lights. It’s a free event taking place during GDIF21 which runs from 27th August to 11th Sept. However, you will need to book a 30-minute slot. Tickets are bound to sell out fast so hurry.

2. Reflection Gardens

Also taking place during GDIF21, this multi-sensory experience will light up both sides of the Thames at dusk on Sept 10 & 11, bringing together light, sound, and fire effects. As we emerge from the pandemic, Walk the Plank’s cross-river installation is designed to provide space for reflection within an atmosphere of hope and healing.

3. Go For A Dip

London has a great selection of outdoor swim spots so find one you like the look of, check booking requirements, and pretend you’re on the Costa Del Somewhere for a little while. If the sun puts in an appearance remember to slip, slap and slop.

4. Roam around lavender fields

For the paltry sum of £1, you can roam around gorgeous Mayfield Lavender, a 25-acre organic lavender field just 15 miles outside London in Banstead. Lavender is at its peak in August but the fields will be open to the public until Sept 30th. No need to pre-book. For more details.

5. God’s Own Junk Yard

For something a little different check out an eclectic wonderland of new and used neon signs and props. Mooch about and then take in some more at the onsite Rolling Scones bar/café. For a sneaky peak and more details visit.

Wherever you are planning to be this Summer we hope you can relax and enjoy some downtime.
